The club was founded by Dr. Hiep Tran in September 2004, with the help of Bernard Eballar, Dan Barrett, and Morris Abraham. We are thankful for the initial funding from the City of Newport News and Mr. Tom Manley (CEO of the TCElectric). Our club is located at 2 venues and has 21 tables with more than 140 barriers.
One of our goals is to promote the sport of table tennis in the state of Virginia and nationally. We try to host two open tournaments a yearly. Most tournaments hosted by NNTTC are sanctioned by USATT unless otherwise noted.
Table tennis is one of the most popular recreational activities in the world that tailors to all age groups, all genders, and all levels of playing ability. The health benefits are highly regarded in both body and mind. In 1988, it became the fastest official Olympic sport of all time. At competition levels, the ball can be traveling at speeds close to 100 miles per hour.
