The club was founded by Dr. Hiep Tran in September 2004, with the help of Bernard Eballar, Dan Barrett, and Morris Abraham. We are thankful for the initial funding from the City of Newport News and Mr. Tom Manley (CEO of the TCElectric). Our club has 16 tables and more than 120 barriers.
One of our goals is to promote the sport of table tennis in the state of Virginia and nationally. We host two open tournaments and the annual Virginia State Championships yearly (only Virginia residents and students can participate in Virginia State Championships). All tournaments hosted by NNTTC are sanctioned by USATT unless otherwise noted.
Table tennis is one of the most popular recreational activities in the world. In 1988, it became the fastest official Olympic sport of all time. At competition levels, the ball can be traveling at speeds close to 100 miles per hour.
